Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers and Kyle Kuzma of the LA Lakers are the NBA Rookies of the Month for the Eastern and Western Conference, respectively.
Simmons, last year’s top pick missed all of last season with an injury. That’s why this year is considered as his rookie year. He’s come out with a bang leading all rookies in points, rebounds and steals while being tied for the top spot in assists. He’s averaging 18.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 2.2 steals to start the season. Simmons has already racked up two triple-doubles this season and he did it in his first nine games. The Sixers are fifth in the East with a 12-9 record.
Kuzma, the 27th pick of this year’s draft has impressed everyone with how smooth and controlled he plays. He’s leading all the rookies out West with 16.7 points per game hitting 50.4% of his shots. He’s also averaging 6.1 rebounds and scoring 37.9% from beyond the arc. Kuzma has taken over the starting power forward position in LA. The Lakers are 11th in the West with an 8-13 record.
In their first meeting this season, the two put up impressive numbers. Simmons almost had a triple double with an 18-10-9 while Kuzma scored 24 points.
