Akhuetie will have to serve a season of residency before suiting up for UP.
In his second season with the Altas during the last year’s NCAA tournament, Akhuetie averaged team-highs of 17.6 points (59.9 FG%), 12.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks. He was also named to the Mythical Five, as Perpetual Help finished with an 11-7 record, good for the fourth seed. They took one game from eventual champions San Beda in the semifinals, forcing the Red Lions to use their twice-to-beat advantage.
Last 2015, Akhuetie in his rookie season was also named to the Mythical Five behind averages of 18.56 points, 11.31 rebounds and 0.88 blocks, though the Altas missed out on a postseason berth.
This past UAAP season, the Fighting Maroons finished sixth overall with a 5-9 record. Akhuetie fills in a lot of their weaknesses from this campaign, giving them an interior presence on both offense and defense.
