Christian Standhardinger headlines Fil-Foreigners in the 2017 PBA Draft

The PBA set September 4, 2017 as the deadline for all Fil-Foreign players to submit their applications for the PBA Draft.

Leading the list of players who have submitted their applications for the PBA Draft is Gilas player Christian Standhardinger. The 6’7″ big man showed his skills during the Jones Cup, FIBA Asia Cup and SEA Games which happened in the last few months.

Standhardinger impressed when he held his own against the best big men in Asia during the FIBA Asia Cup. He averaged 16 points and close to six rebounds per game during his three-game stint in Lebanon. His tough and burly game earned him a following among Filipino fans that enjoyed watching him barrel his way to the hoop.

The only concern with Standhardinger is that he signed a contract with the Hong Kong Eastern Lions of the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL). If he does play in the ABL, he could miss the first few months of the PBA season for whichever team does acquire him.

Following Standhardinger are a group of Fil-Foreign players that led the Cignal HD Hawkeyes to two PBA D-League Championships. DLSU alums Jason Perkins and Julian Sargeant, San Beda’s Davon Potts and Fil-Swede Andreas Cahilig will also be joining the PBA draft.

Rounding out the rest of the applicants are former Letran Knight Felix Apreku, Arellano Chief Zach Nichols and Fil-Am Robert Herndon.

Deadline for local players to submit their applications will be on October 12. The PBA Draft will be on October 29.
