FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2017: Team Philippines bows out of contention with a 2-2 record

The Philippine 3×3 team needed two big wins against Slovenia and El Salvador to ensure a spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Unfortunately, they were only able to salvage one win out of the two games and were eliminated from contention.

In the first game, Kobe Paras, Jeron Teng, Kiefer Ravena and JR Quinahan were up against the undefeated Slovenian team. They started off slow falling behind by double-digits, 14-4. But behind the stellar play of Ravena, they tried to mount a comeback and got within four points, 15-11 before the Slovenians put the game away with back-to-back long balls.

In their second game, the Philippines made sure of the result. Ravena and Teng teamed-up to power their team past El Salvador, 21-14. They attacked the basket relentlessly to combined for seven points each in the win.

With a 2-2 record, the future of Team Philippines in the tournament was out of their hands. They needed a massive loss by France to be able to advance to the next round based on points. The home team made sure to move on to the next round without complications by winning their assignment against Romania. Slovenia and Romania move on to the quarterfinals.
