The Philippine Team in the 3×3 World Cup 2017 finished with a 1-1 slate after their first day of competition.

The team composed of Kiefer Ravena, Jeron Teng, JR Quinahan and Kobe Paras upset the seventh seeded Romanians in their opening game. They stayed within striking distance 12-13 early on before Paras and Ravena took over to close the game. Ravena scored on an and-one lay-up to give Team Philippines a 17-13 lead. Paras closed the game with a cold-blooded two-point basket, a key steal and two free-throws for the 21-15 win.

Unfortunately, the Philippines, couldn’t keep the momentum in the second game. They started off fast with a 3-0 lead. But the home team eventually took over throughout the game and dominated Team Philippines 22-11.

Paras was impressing throughout the day. He scored 12 points against Romania and wowed the crowd with a sweet behind-the-back dribble and finish early in their first game. His performance earned Player of the Day honors.

Team Philippines is third in Pool B behind France and Slovenia both of whom are undefeated in two games. They will go up against Slovenia and El Salvador on June 20 (June 21, Philippine time) for their final two Elimination Round games.
