Ginebra 121 – TNT 94, Ginebra takes a 1-0 series lead
Barangay Ginebra showed that they can dish it out as well as they take it. In the eliminations, the TNT KaTropa drubbed Ginebra by 29-points to overtake them in the standings. Ginebra served payback at a more crucial point in the conference, winning by 27 points to take Game 1 of their Semifinals series.
Justin Brownlee picked off Glen Rice Jr. late and took the ball all the way to the other end for a one-handed flush. That jam highlighted a 14-2 Ginebra run late in the first period which gave the team separation from TNT. What Brownlee started, the rest of the Barangay finished. Scottie Thompson and Sol Mercado got to running in the second quarter as Ginebra continued to build their lead. TNT tried to make headway into the deficit behind Rice Jr. and Jayson Castro but Ginebra’s offense just continued to keep coming int waves.
Joe Devance took over in the third quarter, hitting jumpers from all over the place to lead Ginebra to a 20-point lead. At that point, the Ginebra bench got on the floor and continued to pour on the points. Mark Caguioa led a 14-0 run early in the fourth quarter to build the biggest lead of the game at 34 points.
There were seven Ginebra players in double figures led by Brownlee with 21 points in just 28 minutes of playing time. Devance was once again on point, scoring 19 points on 63% shooting. Caguioa scored all 13 of his points in the final frame. Ginebra was clicking on all cylinders. They had 33 assists and shot 54%. They forced 22 turnovers and scored 23 points off those giveways.
