He’s ready: The Araña-Ravena Twitter spat update

Yesterday, Kiefer Ravena rocked basketball Twitter by announcing his application for the PBA draft.

The Phenom had been eligible for the draft since his graduation from college, but he opted to serve the nation with Gilas Pilipnas and try his luck in the NBA D-League. Now, Kiefer is ready to shift his career towards the big league. A lot of people had been waiting for this – including Ryan Araña. Back in April of 2015, in a heated PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals series between Talk ‘N Text and Rain or Shine, this happened:

And then, that led to this:

Although the exchange did not last long, Araña admits that he was slighted by Ravena’s tweet. “That time kasi, hindi pa kami personally magkakilala ni Kief. So, for me, parang bastos lang ‘yung naging dating. Talo pa kami that game na nag-tweet siya so na-bad trip talaga ako.”

In his defense, Kiefer says that he really just had a good laugh out of Ryan’s reaction. He also says that the they have patched things up after becoming teammates in Mighty Sports for the Dubai International Basketball Championship earlier this year.

Natawa lang ako sa reaction niya at that time,” Ravena says. “Pero okay na kami. Nag-abot pa nga kami sa Mighty (Sports) nung sa Dubai.”

Ryan even recalls their first practice together. Kiefer approached him and said, “Kuya, ‘musta?” That was enough for him to understand that what had happened before was just a ‘heat of the moment’ thing.

It was also in their stint together that their respect for each other strengthened.

Mas naging okay kami nung Dubai trip kasi nakita ko na ‘yung respect niya sa veterans was always there,” Araña spoke of Ravena. “And nakita ko na talagang very competitive siya sa practice. Kahityung imports, hindi inaatrasan. So, for me, hinog na hinog na siya for the PBA. Kita din naman natin sa performance niya sa Gilas.”

After everything has been settled though, Araña sticks by his previous advice. “Pero ‘yung pagpapalakas ng katawan, kailangan naman talaga niya ‘yun. Lalo na ngayon na mataas ang level of competition sa PBA. ‘Di natin alam, baka maging magkalaban kami at maka-bantayan ko pa siya.

Hey, after Enrico Villanueva and Joseph Yeo became friends, I started to believe that all enemies in the world can eventually learn to love each other.
