Pick Your Poison: Five Potential Trades for the Lakers

2861w5The Los Angeles Lakers suck. Yup, I said it. Whoever doesn’t, or thinks they can turn it around without making changes, is a total fool. And since you unfortunately can’t trade your one-dimensional coach, you’ve got to move around some of your ill-syncing Hall-of-Famers because it’s just so damn hard to win with supremely talented basketball players on your team.

Now at 17-25 (araykopo) and with the February 21 (22 Manila time) trade deadline fast approaching, here are five trades we’ve imagined the Lakers could actually make. Thanks to the ESPN Trade Machine for making all the complicated salary stuff look easy. Here are the potential deals with teams rumored to be in the mood for an overhaul/adjustment as well:

TRADE 1: Brook, Love and Dwight

KLOVE DWIGHT LOPEZ

This one’s the most thrown-out there scenario so far. Brook Lopez to Minny, Kevin Love to LA and Dwight Howard, finally with Deron Williams in Brooklyn.

WHY IT MAKES SENSE: LA could use KLove (when he gets healthy). He’s a stretch 4 with young legs who can rebound. He’s perfect for D’Antoni’s high-speed, small-ball, three-point shooting offense. Plus he makes Gasol a center again. Pau has no big boy power forward pants anymore.

WHO SAYS NO: Brooklyn, strangely enough. Brook Lopez is a better, more productive center than Dwight right now (strangely enough). Deron Williams has significantly dipped, and a Deron-Dwight tandem doesn’t seem so scary as it was in the offseason (strangely enough).
