Pirates secures a Final Four spot with their 13th straight win, Stags keep playoff bid alive

LPU Pirates 94 – UPHSD Altas 83

The Lyceum Pirates continue to notch wins in NCAA Season 93. Their latest, win number 13 assured them of a spot in the Final Four.

The Pirates needed a strong fourth quarter push to make-up for a slow start. UPHSD was being carried by the leading MVP candidate Prince Eze all game long. The Altas jumped out to an early lead and Eze scored 16 of his 26 points in the middle quarters to keep them within striking distance of the league leader. Perpetual was just down by four points in the final two minutes of the game and Eze continued to dominate the inside.

Coach Topex Robinson decided to match size with speed as Lyceum blitzed their opponent on both ends of the floor. Perez got a steal and drove all the way for a layup to extend the lead. He then got the step on his defender and got deep into the paint before dishing out to Jaycee Marcelino for the dagger three-pointer to give Lyceum an 11-point lead with under a minute to go.

Perez finished with 21 points and nine rebounds while Mike Nsseuzeu and Jayvee Marcelino scored 15 points each. The other half of the Marcelino twins, Jaycee scored 11 points. Eze had another double-double of 26 points and 21 rebounds but it wasn’t enough to get the win.

SSC-R Golden Stags 73 – CSB Blazers 61

San Sebastian won their sixth game to force a three-way tie for the fourth and final playoff spot. The Stags are tied with the Letran Knights and EAC Generals at 6-6.

The Stags played with urgency against the CSB Blazers. They jumped out to a double-digit lead at the half and limited CSB’s scoring chances. It was a low scoring first quarter for both teams but San Sebastian found their rhythm in the second quarter. Michael Calisaan and Ian Valdez were an inside-outside force that led their team to a 12-point. They combined to score 10 of the 17 points of the Stags in the second quarter.

San Sebastian held on to their lead for most of the way. Unique Naboa tried to bring CSB back into the game by scoring 10 points in the third quarter but The Stags eventually pulled away in the final period. Renzo Navarro waxed hot in the fourth quarter scoring 12 of his 16 points. His long bomb with a little over three and and a half minutes left in the game gave his team a 17-point lead, allowing them to cruise to the win.

Navarro hit all five of his shots from beyond the arc to finish with his output. Calisaan had a solid double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Clement Leutcheu and Naboa combined to score 30 points but got little from everyone else.
