The coaching changes in the UAAP continues. After Coach Boy Sablan left from his post with the UST Growling Tigers, Coach Derrick Pumaren follows suit.
In a report for CNN Philippines, CJ Marquez has confirmed that Coach Pumaren, is no longer the head coach of the UE Red Warriors. According to the report, Coach Pumaren confirmed his departure from the team via text to the news network.
Coach Pumaren has affectionately been called Manong Derrick by those in the community took over for UE in Season 77. In his three years with the Red Warriors, he coached them to a 21-35 record. They were on the verge of making the playoffs in Season 77 before falling out of contention in Season succeeding years.
This year, UE’s best stretch came in the middle of the season when they put together a string of three wins in four games. It was also during that stretch wherein Pumaren got creative with his on-court outfits.
Pumaren leaving also puts into question whether Alvin Pasaol will still remain as a UE Red Warrior. According to a report by Matthew Li of Tiebreaker Times, Pasaol is considering leaving UE as well. He will be putting his name into the PBA D-League draft pool for the upcoming season.
