San Sebastian takes down Arellano in the Chiefs’ home court

SSC-R Stags 65 – AU Chiefs 56

For this season, the NCAA has decided to take their games on the road. For Season 93, they introduced the NCAA on Tour games where six member schools will host official games on their home turf. First stop of the NCAA on Tour Games was Arellano University where the Chiefs hosted the San Sebastian Stags.

The students of Arellano were loud and ready to support their team. Unfortunately, the Chiefs couldn’t capitalize on the home court advantage and they started the game off slow. They fell behind 24-6 in the first quarter. Michael Calisaan exploded for eight of his 12 points in the opening period leading the way for the Stags to take a big lead.

The Chiefs finally found their groove in the second quarter. They unloaded 17 points while limiting the Stags to only 6 points. Kent Salado and Michael Canete combined for 9 points in the strong second quarter push. The game stayed tight all the way through for both teams. Arellano was always within striking distance but never able to get to the lead.

The Stags put the game away in the final four minutes of the game. Enzo Navarro got the ball on the right wing, faked a defender off and hit a three-pointer to give the Stags a six-point lead. With a little over two minutes left in the game, RK Ilagan hit a long three-point bomb to give his team an 11-point lead. San Sebastian closed the game out on a 9-0 run.

Calisaan led the way with his scoring early but he got ample support from Allyn Bulanadi and RK Ilagan with 10 points apiece. Kent Salado scored 15 points for the Chiefs but he was the only player on the team in double figures.

The next NCAA on Tour games will be held in Mapua, Letran, Emilio Aguinaldo in Manila, Perpetual in Las Pinas and San Sebastian in Cavite.
