Bobby Ray Parks Jr. burst into the Philippine Basketball limelight as a member of the NU Bulldogs. He averaged Lebron-like numbers in the UAAP. Even took home back-to-back MVPs during his run. But Rayray failed to win a ring. That’s when the whispers started.
Empty stats. Puro porma.
Instead of keeping his talents in the country, Rayray decided to follow his NBA dream. He risked it all and flew to Texas to suit up for the Texas Legends. He made some noise. Even got some burn. But ultimately, the NBA was too far out of reach. The buzzing got louder.
Wala naman pala e. Sayang lang siya ‘dun.
Rayray came home and instead of going straight for the PBA, he decided to don the country’s colors. Everyone expected him to dominate, just like he did in the UAAP. After all, he played in the US. But Rayray evolved. Instead of playing like the top option, he played his role and fit into the team.
Wearing the bright blue jersey of Gilas in the SEA Games, Rayray impacted each game not through dominating on offense but by shutting down opponents on D. In the process he shut down doubters and haters.
Russ is for the stunt. Rayray is for real.
