UAAP S78 opening week games revealed – NU starts title defense versus DLSU

ABS-CBN Sports has revealed the opening week games for the 78th season of the UAAP.

On a post on their website, the league’s official coverage partner announced that opening day festivities will be held on September 5 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum. Games on the second day, September 6, will be at the MOA Arena.

Following the traditional opening ceremonies at 1pm, hosts University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons will kick-off the tournament versus the University of the East Red Warriors at 2pm. UP hopes a set of new logos will inspire the team to finish out of the cellar spot, while UE will be a very different-looking squad without guys like Roi Sumang.

That will be followed by the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers being pitted against the Adamson University Soaring Falcons at 4pm. UST still has Kevin Ferrer and Karim Abdul leading the way, while Adamson hopes to have adjusted to the sudden exit of head coach Kenneth Duremdes.

Last season’s Final Four teams begin their campaigns on September 6. Defending champions National University Bulldogs draw the curtain-raiser at 2pm, against the De La Salle University Green Archers, while the Ateneo Blue Eagles will tackle the Far Eastern University Tamaraws at 4pm.

How NU fares sans Troy Rosario, and how DLSU looks minus Arnold Van Opstal and Norbert Torres project to draw a lot of interest. Also of note, it’ll be the final season of Blue Eagle Kiefer Ravena, and FEU no doubt is raring to bounce back from their Finals loss.
