A day after giving his commitment to suit up for the UCLA Bruins in the NCAA, rising junior star Kobe Paras and his Cathedral High School Phantoms squad met with powerhouse Corona Centennial High School last October 12 in the 2014 The League fall preseason tournament staged by Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) outfit, Compton Magic.
Ranked No. 8 in the whole of California and 23rd nationally last season, Corona Centennial has in its fold Filipino-American senior guard Sedrick Barefield. Classified as a three-star recruit at the point guard spot, Barefield was heavily recruited by the likes of Boston College, University of Connecticut (UConn), Fresno State, Kansas State, Memphis and University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV), among others, before agreeing to wear the colors of the Southern Methodist University (SMU) Mustangs under coach Larry Brown next season.
Though it was only a preseason affair, both HS squads went at each other hard, with Corona Centennial emerging on top, 65-58, at the end of the game.
