Sedrick Barefield is a sophomore PG from Corona Centennial HS. The 6-foot guard, son of former All-American Ray Barefield of SDSU (Kawhi Leonard and Jason Deutchman’s school) , is part of the class of 2015 but has more than held his own against the top junior and senior point guards in America. As early as this year, Division I schools Boston College (ACC basketball program and alma mater of NBA players such as Jared Dudley and Reggie Jackson of OKC) Arizona, Auburn, Harvard, Stanford, UCLA, USC, UNLV, and UConn, have gone after him.
Although there are no reports yet to officially confirm that he has Filipino blood, the boy sure has physical traces of one and snippets saying he is Filipino from all over the web have been unearthed. One thing is for sure though: Young Blood sure looks more Pinoy than Davonn Harp or Sonny Alvarado!
Scouting report from future150.com reads:
Barefield is a monster in the open floor. His ball handling ability is fantastic and he has great court vision. He loves to score in transition but can knock down the open jumper if left alone. His strongest attribute might be his ability to run a team to perfection. He has a good pace to his game and has the basketball IQ to put his team in position to win.
At 6-foot he needs to focus on being a point guard and maybe hunt his shot a little less. Tends to over dribble at times and needs to get the ball out of his hands. Can dominate the ball and must learn how to play without the ball in his hands. Must get stronger and work on lateral quickness to become a better on ball defender.
