Both Pessumal and Van Opstal wer acquired by their former teams in the special draft for Gilas Cadets last year.
Global Port selected the sharpshooting Pessumal and he was able to earn a niche role with the team. He averaged 15 minutes per game mostly coming off the bench. He’s primarily been used as a floor spacing shooter. Pessumal is averaging 5.5 points and hitting 39.1% from three-point land. His best game came in the Commissioner’s Cup where he scored 14 points and hit four treys in a win against the Mahindra Enforcers.
Van Opstal on the other had has been a project for the Beermen. He’s played sparingly because San Miguel has a short rotation and he’s behind the MVP and otehr productive big men. He’s only played a total of eight games and most of his time on the floor came during blowouts.
The Beermen get another shooter to flank alongside June Mar Fajardo. Batang Pier get a big man who has the size and potential to be the defensive and rebounding center to play with their superstar guards.
