Juan Gomez De Liaño dazzled in the Philippines’ opening day at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup. He led the team to a come from behind win over Israel to notch their first win, 19-17.
Team Philippines hung tough in the second game against the Netherlands team. They only lost by three points to the top-seeded team in the tournament, 10-13.
The future UP Fighting Maroon was hitting long balls over his opponents and using his quick crossover to get to the rim and finish strong over defenders. He was named Player of the Day because of his great performance in both games.
AJ Edu also looked impressive. The Fil-Nigerian big man also had his moment when he erased a shot by an Israel player. Edu will be crucial in the tournament as his size gives the Philippines an edge inside.
The rest of the Philippine Team is composed of NU Bullpup Rhayyan Amsali and last year’s break out high school star, Encho Serrano. The team’s next games will be on June 30.
