What if the Knicks hired Tim Cone to coach the triangle in New York?

Acclaimed sports author Roland Lazenby, who has done books on, among others, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, has some advice for the duo’s most famous coach Phil Jackson, currently President of the New York Knicks:

Hire Tim Cone.

Lazenby describes the current Barangay Ginebra San Miguel mentor as “the ultimate triangle coach in the world today” and added that Jackson “would be smart” to make the move.

The Knicks are currently coached by Jeff Hornacek. They finished the season 31-51, with Jackson introducing elements of the triangle offense to the squad beginning in March, when the team’s hopes of a playoffs berth dimmed considerably.

According to reports, the team expects to use more of the triangle next season, a move that would impact their decision on which players to keep. Currently, long-time lieutenant Kurt Rambis is in charge of teaching the team the triangle principles.

Barangay Ginebra ended their long title drought during the 2016 Governors’ Cup. They made it back-to-back Finals trips, but lost in five games to sister squad the San Miguel Beermen in the 2016-17 Philippine Cup. They’re currently 2-1 in the on-going 2017 Commissioner’s Cup.
